Conclusion
Congratulations! You have now completed the reading material for the four-hour Traffic Law and Substance Abuse Education (TLSAE) course.
Before you start the final exam, let’s take a few minutes to review the key “take-home” points from the course:
- Always wear safety belts and make sure children are properly secured.
- Speeding, driving while impaired, and distraction are the major factors in fatal crashes.
- Alcohol and all illicit drugs impair a person’s ability to safely operate a motor vehicle.
- Alcohol and illicit drugs have harmful short and long term effects on our bodies, and those who become addicted to these substances experience a compulsive craving that does great damage to the lives of the addicted, as well as their loved ones and friends.
- Do not drink alcohol or use drugs before driving. If you plan to consume alcoholic beverages or use drugs, do not drive.
- Do not exceed the speed limit. Speeding is dangerous and is a leading cause of traffic citations. Also, speeding does not save much time; traffic signals and congestion frequently eliminate the advantage that a driver might be trying to gain from speeding.
- Distraction is a major cause of vehicle crashes. When you are behind the wheel of your vehicle, work hard to remain focused on driving. Before you take your eyes off the roadway, check to make sure the situation ahead is safe, and then limit the time that your eyes are off the road.
- Avoid using cell phones. Do not text while driving; it is illegal and incredibly dangerous.
- If you are feeling stressed out or upset, avoid driving. If you must drive, work hard to keep your focus on driving.
- Drowsy driving is a major cause of fatal crashes. If you are feeling tired, avoid driving or find a safe place to take a nap before continuing to drive.
- Obey all traffic laws. Following the law enhances safety for you and the other people sharing the roadway with you. Always make a concerted effort to abide by speed limits, to stop completely at red lights and stop signs, to use your turn signals, and to follow at safe distances behind vehicles ahead.
- Be especially alert for and use great caution when near Vulnerable Road Users.
Thank you for choosing Wise Traffic School, and good luck on your final exam!
